Homemade Candelabra

Saw this project online at Sawdustandpaperscraps.com and had to share.  Now this is a Halloween project but you could also use this for a wedding or special event and save money just use different color spray paint.  However it probably would look better staying black or white and use the beads & candles for added color.

I looked at the store one when I was getting married but they went from $80 to $150 each.  I wish I had found this before.

What you will need is :

2- Old lamps (Goodwill - $3.99 and $1.99) Try to get one with a heavy weighted bottom

1-celing chandelier (Thrift Store - $10)

1- 10 ft piece of 1″ PVC ($2.39)

1- 10 ft 3/8″ threaded rod (electrical department at Home Depot for $5.97)

1-Bag of 3/8″ nuts ($0.98)

Now what You ask....

Take apart the lamps by cutting the cords and removing the nuts and threaded rods.

The chandelier comes apart in layers. Remove the light bulb sockets but you wanted to use the bottom plates for candles.

You will needed this nut to hold the bottom plate in place. I just bent it back and forth until it broke off!

Then start unscrewing and cutting wires…

Until you have a table covered with parts.  Try to remember how to all came apart so you remember how to put it back together.  Depending on the make and brand they are all a little different.

Cut the threaded rod in half with a hack saw and spray painted everything black.

used the base from the lamps that was the heavy weight in bottom

layer the lamps with the larger one on the bottom and then played with the length of the PVC in order to get it to just the right length.

Put another nut on top and tighten it down! More paint and it’s starting to look like something.

Re-attached the candle plates.

add a larger “plate” in the middle.

This larger plate you can sit flowers on or another candle on,  Throw some candles on the other smaller plates and you could be done……..

However if you wannt to “bling” it up a bit!

At the thrift store you can normally fine cheat beads… doesn’t matter the color because we will fix it later.

 hung them on a dowel and spray painted them with a gloss spray paint. Any color is okay just make sure it’s a gloss base color..

hang and drape and swag them all over the candelabra. Some of them can be cut or hot glued around the outside edges so the beads can be well disbursed.

And that’s how you can make a Homemade Candelabra for $27.32.

Alright, so it’s not a $5 project but it’s better than $80-150.00!

Plus, I you will have another 5′ piece of threaded rod and PVC to make another something or other.
